Liverpool Target Richarlison Issues Two-Word Transfer Response

Reports from the winger’s homeland of Brazil suggested that the player’s joint-agent, Renato Velasco, had met with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp at the manager’s house.

The German manager has previously been full of praise for Richarlison, who has impressed at Goodison Park this year after joining in a deal worth up to a potential club-record £50million last summer.

And UOL Esporte claimed that Klopp had spoken with Velasco in his home, strongly hinting that Liverpool could make a controversial move with no player having swapped between the clubs since Abel Xavier since 2002.

A report from the Liverpool Echo indicated that the Toffees had laughed off such shock suggestions, particularly with Richarlison’s other representative – Kia Joorabchian – having strong ties to club chairman Bill Kenwright and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.

But now the ex-Watford forward has come out to address the speculation himself.

In a tweet in the early hours of Friday morning, Richarlison said: “I’m happy.”

The comment was posted alongside two pictures, one of him running away in celebration after scoring and another of him kissing the Everton badge in the direction of the supporters.

The 21-year-old has become a fans’ favourite on the blue half of Merseyside, scoring 13 goals in 33 appearances as the club’s top goalscorer this season.

And the Echo added that Everton have no desire to sell Richarlison, who has impressed in several roles for the Blues, whatsoever.

Their report acknowledges that has been growing interest in the Brazil international of late but claims the player is settled in Liverpool under Marco Silva, who he also impressed under at Watford last season.

Klopp will however likely dip into the transfer market in search of attackers to bolster his forward line in the summer.

Daniel Sturridge is out of contract this summer and no extension is forthcoming, while Divock Origi could leave the club in search of regular game-time although he has become Klopp’s go-to option from the bench of late.

Discussing his plans for the summer transfer window earlier this month, however, the Liverpool boss insists he will not be spending as much as last year when he paid around £175m to recruit Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker.

“For sure there’s no need for that level,” Klopp declared. “I don’t want to talk exactly what we will do, but I don’t think this is a team at the moment where we have to spend the big money or whatever.

“The best way to do it is bring together a group of players, try to develop them altogether and then stay together for a while.

“That was maybe the main problem of Liverpool for the last decade. When they had a good team after a season they went all over the world. That will not happen this year for sure.

“I think the steps are really obvious but it is still about a natural confidence. We have to start looking at ourselves like how other teams see us.

“he team believing in itself is a normal part of development. It is better everybody else says you look good rather than you running around saying: ‘I look really good.’ It is still the same information but it’s different.

It is a good sign of character, but it is normal that we have to get used to our potential. For sure it will come, step by step. It is all positive in how the club is at the moment.”
