Class seven girl savagely mauled to death by lion


An 11-year-old girl in Taita-Taveta County on Thursday night met her sudden death when a lion attacked her outside her house.

The dead girl, identified as Asha Mohammed, was a Class Seven pupil at Marasi Primary School.

The animal, identified by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) as a lioness also injured two other people.

One of the survivors, Michael Nzalu, said he was outside his house when the lion attacked him.

“I ran to the house but it followed me inside and started attacking me, my wife and child. We overpowered it but it left me with serious injuries,” he said.

Mr Nzalu added that the animal jumped out of his house and attacked the young girl, who was outside heir neighbouring house, and killed her on the spot.

He is together with his wife nursing injuries of the ordeal at the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi.

KWS officers killed the adult lioness that is believed to have strayed from the neighbouring Tsavo National Park.
