Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Paul Pogba’s problem at Manchester United is his lack of personal results despite his hard work.
Pogba was in brilliant form for United during the opening weeks following the arrival of Solskjaer after the sack of Jose Mourinho last December.
In his last six league games, Pogba has not scored any goal and has just one assist to his name.
Only two United outfield players had worst passing accuracy than Pogba last night, but he did create five chances and Solskjaer felt, on another day, he would have added to his assists tally.
‘Well today he could have easily had an assist when the great play with him and Rom [Lukaku] so that’s just figures and numbers,’ the Norwegian explained at his post-match press conference.
‘Paul’s working as hard as any of the players in the team. Some days it just doesn’t come off.’
Next up, United face Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final and Pogba will be available having served his one-match ban for getting sent off against PSG.
After three defeats in their last four matches, Solskjaer admits his side need to step up their game if they are going to knock out Barca.
He continued: ‘Many things we have to improve of course, because they are a top, top side, but we will use one or two days now to analyse and recover and then we prepare for Barcelona, which will be a fantastic challenge for the club and the team.’
Meanwhile, Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale has told his representatives that he has no desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, the Welshman has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United over the last few months, after a disappointing season in the Spanish capital.
The 29-year-old was tipped to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus last summer, but he has struggled to cope with the weight of expectation at Madrid since, scoring just 11 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.
The Blancos have dropped out of contention for silverware and have only a runners-up spot in La Liga left to fight for between now and the end of the 2018-19 campaign, but Zinedine Zidane’s recent return to the club has at least lifted the mood among supporters.
