7.1 billion to be given to killed Saudi Arabian journalist’s children.

Slain Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s children have received property worth millions of dollars as a one-time compensation and huge monthly allowances for the killing of their father.

The family of the murdered journalist stands to receive in total over $70 million KSh (7.1 billion) and assets.

Sources familiar with the matter said that though the Saudi government said the payments were meant to mend fences, it did not condemn the royal family, CNN reported.

It was also gathered that all Khashoggi’s four children have each been gifted homes worth as much $4 million (KSh 403 million), with the eldest son having a large home in Jeddah. In addition to the property, they each received a one-time payment of $267,000 (KSh 26.9 million).

They will also receive a monthly stipend of $10,000 (KSh 1.1 million) to $15,000 (KSh 1.5 million) which would not stop coming in. The report further indicated the houses, one-off payments and monthly allowances were all approved by Saudi King Salman, the source said.

It should also be noted that the prosecutors are seeking the death penalty of five of the 11 operatives that were involved in the killing of the journalist at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

However, blood money paid to relatives of victims is a legal action under Sharia law where an accused person pays to avoid a death penalty. The family of the deceased journalist could also grant clemency to the killers if convicted as the Saudi justice system allows it.
