Why ODM leader’s cars were burnt to ashes

Ugly land fights have badly exposed a longstanding battle which threatens to result into fatalities.

The latest incident happened when unknown assailants raided the home of Migori ODM Chairman, Philip Makabong’o and set his two cars ablaze.

The cars, a Toyota Sprinter and a Subaru, were torched after the arsonists gained entry to the politician’s Migori home.

The party official and his family were asleep at the time of the incident.

Confirming the attack, Rongo sub-county police commander Peter Kirui said the politian was scared awake only after hearing a loud bang.

Distressed, he went out of the house and marshalled a group of neighbours to help him extinguish the flame but it was too late.

”He mobilized people to put off the fire and immediately reported the incident to the police. The motive of the attack is yet to be established,” Kirui explained.

Barely two months back, Makabong’o’s son was accosted and badly injured by attackers over a 1.4-acre piece of land at Kitere area in Rongo Constituency.

A local TV station said that Patrick Makabongo was cut with a machete after a fight ensued between him and the son of the area assistant chief Mr. Joseph Nyamanga.
