Uhuru sounds another warning to Tanga Tanga Crusaders

President Uhuru Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta has hit back at political leaders who are trying to politicise his war against graft.

While issuing his warning to politicians, the head of state said investigative agencies should be left to do their work.

The President seemed to be hitting at Deputy President William Ruto and his allies who claimed that the DCI did not know how much money was lost in the dam scandal.

Ruto had been quoted as saying that the money lost in the Arror and Kimwarer dams scam was Sh7 billion and not Sh21 billion.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen had also said the DCI had scandalised and “weaponised” the alleged loss of funds in the dams projects to wage 2022 political wars.

Murkomen said Kinoti lacks expertise in matters relating to Arror and Kimwarer dam projects. The Senator said the DCI should have first sought expert advice before investigating.

“It is not me …corruption has been identified as a stumbling block..again there is no politics there..let us allow the agencies to do their work.. let us not turn this to community fights, into individual fights,” Uhuru said.

Speaking at State House on Friday, Uhuru said corruption must be dealt with whether we like it or not.

“You will hear that so and so is being targeted.. .we must deal with corruption and the fact is that whether we want to accept it or not it exists.. why don’t we fix it instead of politicking ..jameni … ,” he said.

An angry Uhuru said he does not want corruption to be used to victimise somebody but benefit the people of Kenya.

“Let us come together…. please let this be an agenda that we move away from in weddings and funerals… the answer is on us talking to one another,” he said.

“We can compete in a civilised manner, recognising that after competition nobody is leaving Kenya.. .when we say we are reaching out, how do you expect me to say I am governing if I don’t reach out to people?”

Uhuru noted that there were people who did not vote for him but they needed to be served since it is their right.

“There is a big chunk of voters from the other side that did not vote for me but I got to work with them…where are they going? When I am told to let those people go, I ask them where are they going? They must be served and addressed. How do you do it without talking? . aa jameni… sisi watu wa Kenya.”

Early in the month, National Assembly Minority leader John Mbadi urged Ruto to stop defending government officials accused of graft.

He said the recent claims by Ruto that only Sh7 billion had been utilised in the construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams implied that he defended government officials who face investigations.

“It is wrong for the Deputy President to say that only Sh7 billion was spent yet the whereabouts of other funds meant for the projects are still under investigation. Such comments show there is something he knows which other Kenyans don’t know,” Mbadi said.
