Man accused of raping boys in children’s home charged

A Machakos court has ordered the detention of a 23-year-old man accused of sodomising nine boys at the Martyrs of Uganda Children’s home in Machakos County.

David Mutuku Katuku pleaded guilty in the first charge but denied eight more counts when he appeared before a Machakos court.

The prosecution sought orders for the accused to be denied bond arguing that the charges against him are sensitive and he is facing a hostile environment, noting his life will be in danger.

The prosecution also told the court that the conduct of the accused of going into hiding after a warrant of arrest was issued clearly indicates that he is likely to abscond court.

Resident Magistrate Eric Analo directed the prosecution to file a report which is to be presented in court to enable it make an informed ruling whether to allow the accused be released on bond.

The accused was nabbed by detectives while on the run at Muthesya Village in Masinga after the shocking revelations went public.

Reports says that Katuku, a cook, lured the victims with food into the institution’s kitchen during lunch hour where the acts happened on condition that it should be kept secret.

A total of 47 children were rescued from the home after the allegations and are at Katoloni Rescue Centre.

The matter was fixed for mention on April 4 at 11am. The accused will remain in police custody.
