Police in Ruiru, Kiambu County, are holding 25 Burundian nationals whom they believe were being trafficked to Asia.
The detectives from the Transnational Organized Crime,acting on intelligence,raided the home of Mr.Nicholas Mugambi Waigwa and rescued the 25 female victims of Human Trafficking-all Burundians.
The Human Traffickers-Ms. Mercy Kaaia, Ms. Lydia Wairimu & Ms. Susan Nyambura Nganga arrested.
According to the detectives, the victims-all aged between 24 years and 33 years-were being held hostage at the said home in Gwa-Kairu area in Kiambu County pending transit to Asian countries.
A few years ago, police burst a network worth more than Sh90 million
a month, earned illegally by human traffickers by smuggling Ethiopian nationals across the Kenya–Ethiopia border with the prospect of sending them by road to South Africa. On average, 30 Ethiopians were alleged to be crossing the border illegally on a daily basis in a racket that had been going on for last 15 years.
