Government denies American firm has been given license to plant Marijuana in Kenya

The Kenyan government through the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has dismissed reports that it granted an American company, GoIP Global Inc license to cultivate marijuana in the country. According to NACADA, the government does not recognise the issuance of the said license since the The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (Control) Act, 1994 has not been operational.

his was first made public by NACADA director and comedian Chipukeezy who urged a local publication to desist from misleading the public with reports of the alleged issuance of the license to the US company.

”The article published on Page 1 and 4 of the Business Daily of March 25, 2019 about a firm that has obtained a license to grow Marijuana in Kenya is misleading. The Board that is envisaged to issue such licenses under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (Control) Act, 1994 is not operational. GoIP Global Inc is therefore advised to desist from misleading the public,” He wrote on Instagram.

Chipu’s ”heartbreaking” revelation came just days after a local publication reported that the New-York based company, GoIP Global Inc, had claimed to have been granted the necessary license to cultivate marijuana in the country despite the illegal nature of the crop.

According to the firm, the decision to grow the drug in the country was based on the fact that the country lies along the equator which provides perfect conditions for the plant to thrive all year long. “After visiting Kenya and meeting with officials in the country, I am very excited about the prospects this agreement brings to our company. This is the first of several critical transactions that will transform GoIP into a relevant member of the burgeoning cannabis industry,” a statement from GoIP Global Inc said on March 7, 2019.
