The World Expresses Sympathy For Countries Affected By Cyclone

The world woke up on Tuesday morning to urge everyone to pray for victims of cyclone, which has led to Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe succumb to destruction and death.

The famous cyclone (storm without boundary) began in Mozambique on March 14 and has since seen thousands of lives lost.

However, Mozambique Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario had earlier said that while the worst excesses of the flooding had been contained, the country, with Beira topping the list, was still reeling under the challenges of this massive disaster.

Do Rosario said 293 people had died in the last three days while 345 had been displaced. He added that some 1511 were either hospitalised or receiving treatment from mobile medical teams courtesy of the Southern African country’s government and aid agencies.

“Everything that must be done is being done, I can assure you all,” Do Rosario said.

“People must continue to stay in safer and higher places, relief is definitely on the way. No death must happen again because help has not reached them. Food, shelter and medical attention are critically needed.

“We are also working on restoring power, which has been cut in most parts of the city. Another chief priority is the reconstruction of the Beira road, which has been cut off. Progress on site is satisfactory, I can safely tell you that.”

The world has not taken the matter lightly and have asked people to pray for the nations affected by the cyclone.

However, some asked the governments of the three nations to put actions first before involving themselves in prayer.

The European Union announced had announced an initial emergency aid package of 3.5 million euros ($3.97 million) to Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe for emergency shelters, hygiene, sanitation and health care. Britain and the United Arab Emirates have also pledged aid.
