Sad! World’s most ugliest dog who won trophy for his bad looks dies, aged 16

Britain’s ugliest dog whose owner said was “beautiful inside” has died at the age of 16. Chase, a hairless dog with no teeth, a cataract in one eye and a crab like-walk, was peacefully ‘promoted to glory’ at home, his heartbroken owner confirmed.

Storm Shayler says she was with him when it happened and that she is going to miss him “beyond words”. The 50-year-old said: “Chase was a one-of-a-kind dog.”

“He had so much personality and I took him everywhere with me. Nothing at all ever fazed him, he loved people and people loved him.” he said.

Storm Shayler’s dog Chase was awarded third place in the World’s Ugliest Dog competition in 2017

Storm, of Cimla, Neath, South Wales, rescued Chinese-crested mix Chase from a puppy farm. He came third in the world ugly dog competition in California in 2017.

“When I sent in a photograph and entered him in the World’s Ugliest Dog Competition I never imagined he would win a prize but I was gobsmacked when he came third and won a 3 feet trophy.”

“He lapped up all the attention on the day like a little star and loved showing himself off. He might not have won first prize but he was always a winner in my eyes.

“He just loved his life so much. He was an absolute joy for the eight years I had him. I was with him when he died – I just cuddled him and he slipped away peacefully. Said Shayler

“He had an amazing life but I am going to miss him beyond words.

Storm believes ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ and Chase even attended a wedding with her as her plus one. She said: “He loved to boss me around and he’d bark or whinge when he wanted his dinner. But he loved cuddles too.

He just lost a lot of weight and he wouldn’t drink or eat so the vet ran lots of blood tests and scans and eventually discovered it was pancreatitis.

The winner of the ugly dog competition was three year old Neapolitan Mastiff Martha, whose family got £1,055, a trophy and a trip to New York.

Second place went to Moe, a 16-year-old Brussels Griffon-pug mix, who was the oldest dog in the competition.
