Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement has disowned the impeachment calls by Siaya Senator James Orengo against Deputy President William Ruto, reports the Standard.

Over the weekend, Orengo said he will move a motion in the house to have Ruto kicked out over misconduct, a statement which has caused chaos within Jubilee party.

“The DP can also be removed for gross misconduct. The threshold for the removal of Deputy President on constitutional grounds is much lower than going through a criminal trial or prosecution,” Orengo said.

But according to the Standard, ODM chairman John Mbadi has distanced the party from such debate, a move that could further raise questions over Orengo’s remarks.

Already, Laikipia Women Representative Catherine Waruguru has accused the Senate Minority Leader of bringing discomfort in government through Ruto’s impeachment threats.

“If James Orengo has not been able to show Baba(Raila) a formula to win an election since time immemorial when he started vying for the presidency, what is this thing he will do to validate his desire to impeach William Ruto using the handshake?” questioned Waruguru.

Despite Mbadi’s stand, Raila Odinga’s son Junior, has however backed Mr Orengo’s decision to draft the motion. At the National Assembly, Orengo will require one-third of MPs support before moving to Senate.

“Senior Counsel James Orengo is within his right to bring amotion of no confidence just like any other Kenyan can do, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a position of his party ODM,” he said.
