Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has made a shocking statement saying that Patrick Vieira was dirty when he was playing for Arsenal.
He has also said that during United’s fierce rivalry with Arsenal, he didn’t like Emmanuel Petit because of the Frenchman’s appearance.
When Patrick Vieira was at Arsenal, some of the games between United and the Gunners were very competitive and fierce.
‘I didn’t like Arsenal,’ Giggs told the Daily Mail. ‘I didn’t like Vieira ’cos he was dirty and got away with murder. I didn’t like Petit because he had long hair. I didn’t like Bergkamp.
‘I didn’t like Pires even though when you meet him now he’s actually dead nice. I wouldn’t even look at them, didn’t know them and didn’t want to. I wouldn’t allow myself to rate any of them.
‘Berkgamp? Nah, I told myself he wasn’t as good as Eric Cantona. I wasn’t really that kind of person. It wasn’t really me.
‘But you had to get that in your head, that intense dislike. It was pure motivation. But deep down we knew. They were top drawer and that rivalry was everything to us. Deeper even than Liverpool at that time.’
Meanwhile, Arsenal celebrity supporter Piers Morgan doesn’t believe the Gunners will miss Aaron Ramsey when he joins Italian side Juventus . The Welshman signed a mega deal to join the Serie A leaders in the summer, ending his 11-year stay at Arsenal.
Since he joined the Gunners, he has scored 62 goals in over 350 appearances across all competitions. He has also won three FA Cup titles.
He has already provided eight assists and scored four goals this season, but Morgan doesn’t believe his departure will cause any problems.
“Aaron Ramsey reminds me of Olivier Giroud – they’re both very good footballers, but honestly we haven’t missed Giroud at all since he left and I don’t think we’re going to miss Ramsey anything like the way people keep going on about it,” he told Friday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“The truth is, Ramsey for the last few years has been a perfectly good player in the team, but under Emery he hasn’t started that many games. Recently he’s started playing well because he’s got his big deal and good luck to him. He’s been a good servant to the team.
“But Ramsey has been part of the least successful Arsenal team over a decade-long period that we’ve probably ever had. So let’s get things in perspective. We need world class players to come in. I think we’ve got some in the team.
“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are beginning to show that they’re pretty formidable as a forward duo, Mesut Ozil is world class when he fancies it but doesn’t fancy it enough, and I think we’re seeing some of the other come through as well.
“But honestly, does the future of Arsenal depend on Ramsey? I don’t see it. Some Arsenal fans may disagree with me, but I just don’t.”
