Kenyan Troops in Somali kill top Al-Shabaab Commander

It is a breakthrough for Kenyan soldiers as a top Al-Shabaab commander thought to have masterminded the El Adde is killed.

Reports indicate Ahmed Iman Ali aka Abu Zinara was killed on Friday after Amisom soldiers launched an airstrike in one of their hideouts in the Kenya-Somalia border. 

The slain Al-Shabaab commander is said to be a trained engineer and graduate of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture (JKUAT). He was also among the most wanted terrorists by the American FBI.

This comes even as five Kenya Defence Forces soldiers (KDF) soldiers were ambushed by the militants en route Elwak after leaving their camp in Somalia.

The infamous  El Adde attack, which happened on January 15, 2016, claimed lives of hundreds of KDF soldiers and has since been documented as the worst attack Kenya has ever suffered at the hands of Al Shabaab.

Security sources privy to the Friday airstrike have revealed to a local media that Ahmed Iman Ali, a powerful fugitive attached to the terrorist cell, is said to be among 40 Mujahideen members of the Al-Qaeda group that were killed. 

Mujahideen is further said to be responsible for attacks in Somalia and the Kenyan border counties.
