Elijah Agutu Ogutu, allegedly beat to death his 25-year-old sister-in-law after he learned of her plans to marry a man he did not approve.
The 60-year-old man from Rarieda learned of Susan Awino Omolo’s plans to marry a neighbour’s son against his wish.
Area Assistant Chief Peter Odongo told reporters that Agutu tried to discourage Awino from going on with the marriage but she had made up her mind and was adamant her decision was final.
Matters got out of hand when Agutu found the sister in-law on phone with her fiancee after which he pounced on her with kicks, blows and a crude weapon killing her on the spot.
He then turned his wrath on his wife Eunice Agutu and assaulted her leaving her nursing serious injuries. She was admitted at the Madiany sub-county hospital.
Rarieda Sub-County Police Commander Mr. Thomas Sangut confirmed the incident saying the assailant was arrested and locked up at Aram police station.
The body of Awino was moved to Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary to await postmortem as investigations begin into the matter.
