Airports officer commits suicide jumping down from control tower

Authorities at the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) have confirmed that an officer who lost his life at Moi International Airport, Mombasa died as a result of suicide.

The aerodrome control officer II based at the facility is said to have jumped to death from the airport control tower and died on the spot.

Authorities are however carrying out investigations to unravel how the incident occurred as family members and colleagues remained shocked.

“The family of the deceased was informed and our officers are working closely with the relevant authorities to investigate the incident,” KCAA said in a statement.

“Our thoughts go out to the family and friends at this difficult time. We extend our deepest sympathies and keep them in our prayers,” the authority added.

KCAA said that staff on duty and those affected would undergo counselling sessions to cope with the loss and grief.

“The Board and Management stands with all Air Traffic Control Officers during this time having lost a valuable member of the team.”
