11 dead in ‘man eating’ Nakuru-Nairobi highway

The Nakuru-Nairobi highway has turned into an accident spot after lives were lost on Friday morning.

Eleven people have been confirmed dead after a trailer rammed into a fleet of cars, including Public Service Vehicles at Kikopey, Gilgil along Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The Friday morning accident has left victims trapped in wreckage and rescue operation is underway. Witnesses reveal that the trailer lost control while moving driving downhill hence hitting other vehicles and causing deaths and damage.

The road has rampant cases of accidents as reported in the last five years.

In Septemer 2018, eleven lives were lost in Sogea Gilgil after a passenger bus christened Climax that was heading to Nairobi from Kakamega town while the trailer was heading towards Nakuru collided.

The recent cases of accidents in highway have involved heavy trucks which the government had plan on having Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) for goods.
