On Thursday The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) will launch an urgent appeal for support towards the ongoing drought crisis in Kenya.
In a statement to newsrooms , KRCS says it will be seeking the support of all Kenyans, partners and stakeholders to mitigate the effect of the drought.
The drought has affected
Counties that are most affected with the drought situation are Samburu, Marsabit, Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, Baringo, Kilifi, Tana River, Makueni, West Pokot, Kajiado, Kwale and Wajir.
The government has approved the immediate release of Ksh.2billion to facilitate drought intervention.
The government has however issued several statements saying there should be no cause for alarm as ‘no Kenyans have died from hunger.’
A report by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) cites below average 2018 short rains for the rising cases of food insecurity.
Livestock and crop production in several parts of the country has also been affected by the ongoing drought as most water sources have dried up.
