The Lame Reason Section of MPs Gave to Oppose Magoha’s Nomination Even as He Stood Tall

The National Assembly has approved the nomination of Prof. George Magoha as the Education Cabinet Secretary and expressed optimism that he will reform the sector.

A section of MPs from North Eastern region, however, opposed the Magoha’s appointment accusing the professor of canceling exams of over 3000 students from northern Kenya when he was in charge of the Kenya national examinations council.

They further accused the Professor of being arrogant and unapproachable.

Members of the National Assembly across the political divide praised the nominee for education cabinet secretary Prof. George Magoha terming him as the most suitable to upscale the education sector.

Nominated MP Wilson Sossion and Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba both of whom lead teachers’ unions committed to engaging the new CS productively on improving the education sector.

The lawmakers expect Prof Magoha to prioritize implementation of the Competence Based Curriculum and look into funding for school infrastructure to sustain the 100 percent transition policy.

And as Prof Magoha prepares to succeed Ambassador Amina Mohammed at Jogoo house, the in-tray is full.

The confusion surrounding the publication of textbooks as a threat to quality education and inadequate teachers resulting from the increased number of students are some of the challenges awaiting the new CS.

The appointment of Prof George Magoha was unanimously adopted by the committee of appointment that vetted him.
