Sammy Black and his wife Virginia Njeri are a Nairobi street couple who were recognise by photographer, Muchiri, and promised to transform their life. Their photos touched the heart of Kenyans who offered to support them and even flied to Diani for a vacation sponsored by Bonfire Adventure.
Unfortunately, the great couple is back to the street after all promises failed to be fulfilled, Sammy says that he thought his life and that of his wife had completely changed for the best as they flied to Diani;
“When I was in the plane I thought my life was completely changed and I saw myself becoming very successful. We were taken to Diani and we were given some foods which I even din’t know their names.”
They are blaming their sponsor for failing them and even says that when they try reaching him they get no response. They claim that photographer Muchiri was using them for his own benefits;
“Muchiri was using us to feed himself, he even promised to open a car wash for us and to have our rent paid. He only paid for four months and after that life became unbearable. We tried to get a job and every time I asked him about the car wash business he ignored us. I even went to his office at Bonfire Adventures and he told me to wait outside but he din’t come.
When I look at the photos I remember that journey and I fall into depression. The situation becomes worse when my colleagues laugh at me saying even if you go with a plane you will come back here.”
