Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is considering a move away from the Bernabeu this summer, reports claim.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United for years and they may finally get their chance to sign the 25-year-old.
According to L’Equipe, Varane is keen to explore new options after winning everything he possibly could in Spain.
The Red Devils tried to sign Varane in 2011 when he left Lens, but the defender eventually decided to join the Spanish giants instead.
“Manchester United? They had just signed Phil Jones in my position,” Varane said in 2014.
Manchester United will be hoping this summer transfer window is more successful than last year.
Similarly to Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool, Varane’s leadership and dominance at the back could transform United into Premier League title challengers next season.
“My first reaction when Real wanted to sign me was not, ‘Of course I will go’. I only made my decision when I knew that the coach wanted me to play in the first team,” Varane added in 2014.
However, it is no secret United are in the market for a world class centre back and they would jump at another chance to sign Varane.
The World Cup winner boasts four Champions League titles, two La Liga triumphs and one Copa del Rey during a trophy-laden career in the Spanish capital.
