Police find shotgun, pistol and 471 bullets in home of Nairobi lawyer who shot, killed son

The police who have been conducting investigations into circumstances under which city lawyer Assa Nyakundi shot dead his 29-year-old son have recovered a shotgun, pistol and 471 bullets from his house. Nyakundi, who is a licensed gun holder, allegedly shot his son, Joseph Nyakundi, while trying to change the position of his pistol in the car after arriving at their Muthaiga home from ICC Church on Mombasa Road.

According to Citizen digital on Tuesday, March 19, police recovered a pistol and the 471 rounds of ammunition of different calibre inside a safe in the master bedroom. Detectives also found one shot gun rifle at a shoe rack in a room used as a library. “The firearm certificate and the civilian firearm certificate ID have been forwarded to firearms licensing board for verification,” said the police.

The investigators who conducted a search in Nyakundi’s Toyota Axion car further recovered one spent cartridge under the mat of the front passenger seat and a bullet head of the same type was found inside the boot. They disclosed that the lawyer’s Glock pistol which was recovered from him after the fatal shooting was loaded with 13 bullets and not 14 as earlier reported. Nyakundi who had been detained at Muthaiga police station was taken to Nairobi Hospital on Sunday evening under police guard after suffering blood pressure complications while in custody. The body of his son was taken to Aga Khan Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem.
