After close to three months now as the care taker manager at United, the team has recorded positive match results compared to his predecessor Mourinho an he says he feel more at home than ever before.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he is already thinking of his future at Manchester United.
Brought in as caretaker manager following Jose Mourinho’s sacking in December, Solskjaer is red-hot favourite to be given the job on a permanent basis – despite recent defeats to Arsenal and Wolves.
There is still yet to be any clear indication from the Old Trafford board when Solskjaer will be formally handed the role.
But it increasingly appears to be a formality, given how he has rejuvenated the squad and United’s supporters.
And Solskjaer admits that he has even changed his approach to the role in recent weeks, the clearest indication from the 46-year-old that he believes he will be given the job on a permanent basis.
“As a manager when I know the contract is finished in the summer, I haven’t spent as much time at the academy as I had come to do,” said Solskjaer.
“But it is clear that I am now working as if I [will stay]. I think of the club five and 10 years ahead of time now as well.”I have always thought that I’m going to have to do the best job interview I can.
“It’s not up to me to consider if I live up to the standard, but I feel much more at home in this building here, at Old Trafford, with these players, than I’ve ever done.”
Speaking to Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang, Solskjaer also revealed that he never thought he would get the opportunity to be in charge at United, following his dismal spell at Cardiff.
“It’s always been in the back of my head that this is the dream job. Of course, it is.”But after what happened in Cardiff , I put this happening out of my mind.
“As a supporter in all the years since I moved from here, I have thought about Manchester United and what I would do. I felt this was something I could do.
“I wasn’t afraid to come here and not be ready for this job. So far, I’ve thrived.”
