Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Engineer Alex Tolgos had a rough time on Saturday when Political leaders Allied to Deputy President William Ruto, joined forces against him at a public function held at Sambirir in Elgeyo Marakwet.

The Sh21 billion dams scandal probe took centre stage as Deputy President William Ruto visited the county. Tolgos was reprimanded for supporting the ongoing probe by the DCI into the loss of Ksh 21 billion that was meant for the construction of two dams.

The leaders who included Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, MPs Caleb Kostany (Soy), Hillary Kosgey (Kipkelion), Nelson Koech (Belgut) and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot accused Tolgos of failing to understand what was happening in the dams probe

And as Ruto’s allies rose one after the other to castigated the area Governor Alex Tolgos who was present, there were continuous murmurs from the crowd indicating clear disapprovals with some shouting and mocking the the leaders for attacking their governor for standing with investigations.

Most of the residents questioned why some of their leaders were against investigations when it was crystal clear that the funds meant for the dams had been mismanaged.

Murkomen, who lately has not been in good terms with his county boss, asked the governor to concentrate on Elgeyo Marakwet politics and stay away from matters in Nairobi.

Most of the MPs who spoke at the function took issue with Tolgos over his earlier remarks. Tolgos had openly supported the ongoing DCI probe into the scandal but also wants the dams completed.

The governor last week apologized to President Uhuru Kenyatta after five MPs from his county attacked the Head of State over what they termed as targeting DP Ruto using the dams probe.

However, when he rose to speak, the governor ignored comments from the legislatures and instead stated that Arror and Kimwarer dams should be completed despite the ongoing probe.

On his part, the DP assured residents that the construction of Arror and Kimwarer dams in the region would go on as planned by the government.

He told locals that the dams were among more than 55 others planned by the government and he told off those he said were undermining the Jubilee Government development plans.

“We will ensure the dams are developed to completion as part of the Jubilee agenda for development in this region,” Ruto said.

Ruto was in the region to launch the newly constructed Sampirir ICT and Resource center.
