Nyeri Man Jailed For A Unlawful Petition.

A parliamentary contestant was committed to 30 days in civil jail for failing to raise Ksh9.5 million fine.

This was after an unsuccessful petition against the Mathira Member of Parliament (MP), Rigathi Gachagua election in 2017.

Micheal Gichuru did not obey the decree nor satisfy the court that he is entitled to be discharged from custody.

AMonthly allowance of 1,800 was fixed,The court further fixed Ksh1,800 as the monthly allowance for the petitioner.

The judge had ruled that the petitioner did not provide enough evidence to prove that the legislator was not duly elected.

“I find that the Mathira parliamentary election held on August 8, 2017 was free, fair and transparent,” Justice Jairus Ng’aa had ruled.

“The election was conducted in full compliance with the law,” he added.

Gachagua emerged victorious against his counterpart Wambua Wamaranga, in the race for the Mathira parliamentary seat.

Gichuru had argued that the August 8, 2017 election had irregularities and illegalities.

However, the court ended up upholding the election on February 2, 2018.
