Barack Obama celebrates Irish roots in style

Born to a Kenyan father Barack Obama Sr and an American mother from Kansas named Ann Dunham; the story of Obama’s ancestry is flushed with complex roots that intertwine to form the controversial background of the United States first black president.

Former President Barack Obama recently took to social media to celebrate the Irish holiday of St. Patrick’s Day. Obama’s mother Ann, is said to be mostly of English descent, with some German, Irish, Scottish, Swiss, and Welsh ancestry.

Taking to social media, the 44th president of the United States of America acknowledged his heritage and praised the history in the small town of Moneygall in Ireland in 2011.

The image taken in 2011, was from the Obamas’ visit to Ireland. The Irish Times reported in 2011 of Obama’s monumental connections in the Irish village of Moneygall stating, “the honored guest was met by Henry Healy, his Irish cousin (eight times removed) and two magnificently be chained council leaders from Offaly and Tipperary.”

Obama also made time to dance with the people and share a pint of guiness. A prominent pub owner in the area Ollie Hayes is recorded saying, ‘We have been waiting in hope for this very day and I can say that is, without doubt, one of the proudest days of my life.

It’s not every day that the US President drops by our bar for a pint. It really is a remarkable day for all the community here in Moneygall. We are going to talk about this day forever as the day that Moneygall made history.’

Former President Obama is yet to make a return visit to Ireland since 2011. The annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.
