Matiang’i knows my performance, Prof Magoha tells vetting committee

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is better placed to tell Prof George Magoha’s strengths and achievements should the appointment committee need to probe further and having served as the Education CS, Matiang’i can testify about his (Magoha’s) achievements at the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

“I am free to make friends…It is not just Matiang’i, even the Hon. Speaker Justin Muturi is my friend, Prof Magoha said.

“Since this is a ministerial job which I never looked for and he (Matiang’i) is the one who recommended me to the President to head KNEC, he will be able to tell you (if you want), what exactly I was able to do at KNEC,” he said.

Prof George Magoha appeared before the Public Appointments Committee on Thursday for vetting on his suitability for the position of CS Education and most of his responses were lauded all over the internet.

Magoha then requested the committee not to ask him questions about individuals as it is something he does not like engaging in.

He also warned the MPs that if he is appointed he will open his doors to them but they should not take advantage of that.

“If I’m appointed to this position through your approval my door will be wide open for all of you (MPs) but you will also have to consider that I have targets to meet, you do not expect me to sit down the whole day attending to you,” he remarked.

President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Magoha as Education CS to take the place of Amb Amina Mohamed who was moved to the Sports docket that was left vacant following the sacking of Rashid Echesa.

Magoha is widely regarded by many as the answer to Kenya’s education struggles and it seems it is just a matter of when, not if, he will be appointed the new Education CS.
