This week, disappointed Kenyan women went on twitter demanding for better quality of sanitary pads from Proctor and Gamble (P&G), the manufacturers of Always pads in Kenya and also complained about illegal chemicals causing rashes,  allergies and the plastic covering the pads making them unbreathable.

They also complained of scented pads being smelly after use and discomfort caused from the heat.

Here are some of the experiences shared;

@AshelyJulie This is not only happening in Kenya,but in Uganda as well. My sister got a boil as a result of using always sanitary towels. #MyAlwaysExperience

The women also went ahead to compare the quality of Always pads from other countries with many saying the quality is much better.

In response,Proctor and Gamble (P&G) said that their products go through very rigorous regulatory tests and are also tested with real women to ensure that they are safe  for use.A

The also added that they have different types of pads to cater for different needs depending on the experiences each woman may go through.

The company noted that all pads across their markets including the ones in Kenya are designed and developed in the US. using the same technology and materials.

“The comparisons are different product versions that are all available in Kenya as well. For example, our soft (pink pack) pads are similar to the Always Sensitive (pink pack) pads in Europe. They are comparing Always Maxi Thick, also found in Europe and Kenya, To Always Sensitive when both products are available in Kenya as well.”
