Single and beautiful: Sanjeev Sonia Birdi’s profile

Former United Republican Party (URP) nominated MP Sanjeev Kaur Sonia Birdi appearing before the Nairobi County Assembly Committee on Appointments on March 11, 2019 for vetting

At her advanced age, Sanjeev Sonia Birdi is still singe and a beautiful woman.

On Monday, she caused laughter during her vetting for Nairobi County Environment CEC docket when she told the panel that she is yet to be married as no man has ever proposed to her.

Sonia Birdi (Sunjeev Kaur Birdi)  is a first born in a family of four girls. She is a  nominated member of the Kenyan Parliament. She is the first Kenyan woman of the Indian origin to be a member of parliament. She shares her name with powerful Indian matriarch and kingmaker, Mrs Sonia Gandhi who belongs to the legendary Gandhi dynasty.

Joined Loreto Convent Msongari for her secondary school education.

She holds a Bachelor Degree in Commerce from D.R College in India

She has Masters degree in Business Administration from University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.

Sonia Birdi Political Career

Birdi has taken part in various activities in her capacity as a member of parliament. She was at the Women In Parliament Global Forum in Brussels, taking part in the African Women’s Communication and Development Network (FEMNET) walk for the Bring Back Our Girls campaign following the Nigerian schoolgirls’ kidnapping by Boko Haram.

She also attended the inauguration of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and had the opportunity to discuss Kenya–India relations with the BJP. Birdi sponsored a motion in Parliament, for the government to build dams countrywide for conservation of the environment and ecosystem management in order to reduce environmental degradation. She has also spoken on road safety measures, urging the Transport Safety Authority to take stricter measures on public transport safety.

She was recommended for a URP Makadara parliamentary ticket by residents but later supported TNA’s Benson Kangara, who eventually won the seat after the Jubilee coalition resolved to have a single candidate for the seat.
