Four people died on Tuesday evening following an accident involving a matatu and two motorcycles.

One person died at the Mugango area along the Olenguruone-Bomet road where the matatu lost control and veered off the road.

The driver of the matatu survived and told police that his brakes failed after hitting a boda boda along the road.

Bomet Divisional Police Commander Geoffrey Walumbe confirmed the incident adding that three of the victims succumbed while undergoing treatment at the Tenwek Hospital.

“The accident occurred in Salaik village on the Mugango-Silibwet road when a matatu traveling from Olenguruene in Nakuru County to Bomet collided with [two] motorcycles and rolled repeatedly before landing in a ditch,” he stated.S

Tenwek CEO Geoffrey Langat also confirmed that 15 injured people were receiving treatment at the facility.

“We have 15 victims admitted to hospital; 11 of them are male, three female and one child,” Langat stated.

A resident of the area, Mr John Korir blamed the accident on the unmarked road that makes it dangerous to drive especially at night.

“There are no yellow lines on the road leading to frequent accidents coupled with the fact that there are no road signs which makes it difficult for motorists to know what lies ahead of them,”he explained.
