Why popular Journalist was forced to apologize to crash victims

A popular TV anchor has been forced to apologize over an ‘offensive’ gesture he made on a media depiction of the Ethiopian Airline which killed all its occupants.

“I would never intentionally trivialize death or even injury; it is simply not my person, heart or intention,” he stated on his Twitter page.

“I offer my unreserved apology to all the families, friends and all others I unintentionally offended,” he added.

NTV news anchor Dann Mwangi

The offensive incident happened as the news anchor was narrating how the crash happened using animated graphics.

When he got to the explosion part, Mwangi made a gesture as if trying to ward off the smoke from the supposed wreckage.

Backlash from netizens

The video went viral on social media and Kenyans did not take it lightly, calling out the journalist for inappropriately making fun of such an incident.

“Dan Mwangi that was very insensitive of you, be a man and apologise,” @Kuchie urged him.

“This is so insensitive of Dan Mwangi and NTVKenya newsroom in general (the graphics add nothing to the story but horror),” @Hovelyzz stated.

In a letter posted on twitter, the journalist apologized for his actions.

“I acknowledge that in our skew towards the graphics/simulation while trying to paint a fairly tangible picture, it came across as something else, the line was crossed, regrettably,” he noted.
