Siaya County Executive member of finance and planning Joseph Warega following a myriad challenges with top county government officials and MCAs raising issues of financial mismanagement in his office has resigned.

In January 2018, he, however, had to persevere a grilling that linked him to the infamous Ksh 283 million 2008 cemetery land scandal. 

Mr Warega reportedly wrote a resignation letter and sent it to Governor Cornel Rasanga’s office on Wednesday last week.

He cited frustration from the county establishment. Even so Rasanga has denied frustrating him.

“I have received the letter from the finance head. He opted to resign rather than confront accountability issues we had raised with his office,” said Rasanga in a text message sent to a newsroom.

In that effect, the governor appointed the county’s CEC in-charge of water, Adrian Ouma, to head the docket in acting capacity.

“This reorganization is aimed at consolidating and fast tracking the county government’s development agenda and service delivery,” stated County Chief of Staff Walter Okello.
