Man Utd shift focus from Coutinho and prioritize Sancho

Manchester United are ‘unlikely’ to sign Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho as they look to prioritise the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.

Rumours were rife in the January transfer window that the Red Devils were interested in taking Coutinho to Old Trafford following the Brazilian’s mixed start to life at the Camp Nou.

The former Liverpool playmaker was whistled at by fans for his performance during Barcelona’s 3-1 victory at the Nou Camp, which ended when he was substituted with 10 minutes to go.

Coutinho has scored eight goals for the Catalans this season but only three since October and has looked short on confidence. Which is perhaps why he has been talking to United players.

The Sunday Mirror had claimed that the 26-year-old ‘has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Manchester United’.

However, the Independent now reports that United will ‘press ahead’ with an £80million move for England international Sancho as the winger ‘fits the profile’ of player they are looking for.

It is believed that the club are not looking to ‘prioritise’ Coutinho’s position and want to focus their efforts on players that can play further up the pitch, like Sancho.

The report continues by saying that Dortmund would ‘prefer to keep’ Sancho until the following summer.
