The items recovered at the crash site of the Ethiopian Airline plane spoke fondly of their lifestyles. Several of them were workers of international organizations.

At the site, Red Cross workers in masks sifted gently through victims’ belongings. Children’s books – Dr Seuss’s “Oh The Thinks You Can Think” and “Anne of Green Gables” – lay near a French-English dictionary burned along one edge. The book spoke loudly about the reading lifestyle of the owner. Though no person has connected the ownership of the books to any of the crash victims, they could be belonging to the kids who were in the plane.

Ethiopia is also a place with several diplomatic interests. The United Nations lost 21 staff in the crash.

Seven of the UN staff who died from the crash worked for the World Food Program, three were from Uited Nations Home and Centre for Refugees UNHCR.

“As we mourn, let us reflect that each of these WFP colleagues were willing to travel and work far from their homes and loved ones to help make the world a better place to live. That was their calling, as it is for the rest of the WFP family,”

said WFP director David Beasley
