Why Manchester United’s number one goal keeper, De Gea lost Arsenal goal

Football pundits believe Manchester United first defeat under the care of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was mostly a cause of one of their best player, DeGea, no one saw it coming and the keeper is a good one at distant strikes.

Gary Neville reckons David De Gea’s ongoing contract talks with Manchester United could be behind his bad form this season.

The Red Devils shot-stopper is arguably the best keeper in the world on his day but Neville believes he has looked a little off-colour at times this campaign.

Over the weekend, De Gea conceded from a speculative Granit Xhaka strike, prompting Neville to speak out about the Spaniard at length.

“The first thing to say when you see a goal like that, is that you think there’s been a deflection,” said Neville on Sky Sports.

“But there wasn’t one. It was really poor from David De Gea. I’m not sure how to explain that. He hits it well Xhaka.

“He’s got a clear sight of it David De Gea. It swerves but I’ve got no defence for him. It’s poor from the goalkeeper.”

After play resumed he added: “He sets high standards De Gea, it goes to his left but he just doesn’t react, it’s really weird. Sometimes you just lose concentration as a player, that’s the only way I can describe it.

“His reaction for me; he went to his left but didn’t seem to react when the ball went the other way. He’s not been at his best David De Gea this season.”

Jamie Redknapp concurred with Neville to some extent, adding: “His body language has been strange and I agree with you Gary he has got to do better.”

However Neville suggested his Manchester United contract stand-off may be impacting his performances.

“All the noise of the contract, said Neville. “He must have had a lot of noise in his ear.”
