What initially looked like a joke is proving to be a serious venture with Murathe Now Investing his resources to actualize his dreams of sinking Ruto.

The former Gatanga MP has seeked the services of Siaya Senator James Orengo and senior counsel John Khaminwa.

Murathe wants the duo to get an advisory opinion from the Constitutional Court on whether DP William Ruto can run for President in 2022.

“We are not going to the Supreme Court. Instead, we are going to the Constitutional Court first,” he said.

Murathe has made a solemn vow to block Ruto from contesting for the Presidency on grounds that the DP is unfit and would have served for 10 years jointly with President Kenyatta who will not be eligible for another term.

Murathe has already obtained a preliminary opinion from the lawyers who have told him that there is a highly viable and persuasive argument that the DP is barred from the 2022 race.

The lawyers argue that the DP is elected into office ‘indirectly’ by virtue of being the running mate of the President.

Murathe’s lawyers also argue that the presidency is shared between Uhuru, in accordance with Article 147 of the Constitution, which makes the DP the President’s principal assistant in execution of the President’s functions.

“Article 147 has been invoked by Kenyatta during his first term. This happened in October 2014 when the President appointed Ruto as the Acting President for three days while he attended the status conference at the International Criminal Court,” the lawyers said.

Deputy President William Ruto has time and again come under attacks from different quarters over his alleged lack of integrity.

Ruto has declared that he will be going for the Presidency come 2022 with his declaration seeming causing some levels of uncomfort among his political competitors led by Raila Odinga.

Raila and his foot-soldiers have made sensational claims that Ruto cannot be trusted with the leadership of the Country.

Ruto on the other hand is a lucky man who has always had people come to his aid. The son of Samoei have loyalists and sycophants who have time and again fought his battles with many even ready to take a bullet for him.

The latest to join Ruto’s Defence Forces are the Nairobi County Assembly Jubilee MCAs who have expressed their displeasure with ODM leader Raila Odinga’s attacks towards Deputy President William Ruto.

Led by Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu, the legislators on Friday termed the accusations made by Raila at the recent Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga county as immature and uncalled for.

Speaking on Wednesday, Raila questioned how the DP knew that only Sh7 billion was reportedly lost in the project and not Sh21 billion as reported.

The MCAs said Raila’s attacks on Ruto were utterly insensitive and condemned the utterances.

They said Ruto as the deputy president has an obligation and mandate to articulate government projects and defend the Jubilee manifesto.

“We demand respect for the Deputy President and the Jubilee Party,” said the legislators.

Nominated MCA Leah Naikane said the legislators are fully behind President Uhuru Kenyatta’s war against corruption and his handshake with Raila.

“It is unfair for Raila to preach water but drink wine…If he does not support corruption he should not be pointing a finger towards Ruto. We will not entertain a witch hunt towards targeted at the DP,” she said.

INSIDE IEBC’S STRING OF CHANGES THAT WILL HELP BRING BACK SANITY TO KENYA’S ELECTORAL SYSTEM

IEBC is proposing changes, changes that will see the Kenyan Electoral System Greatrly Change in the next course of years.

The Kenyan Electoral System has time and again come under great scrutiny with many people arguing that it is sort of complicated with Kenyans always required to elect many leaders at a go.

This has made the electoral process in the Country take longer than expected with results, which have always been the bone of contention taking long to be transmitted. This has given Electoral Commissions a bad image with Kenyans always calling for an overhaul of the said commissions basically after each general election.

IEBC, through Chairman Wafula Chebukati is now proposing a number of changes that will all but help streamline the Electoral System should they be adopted.

The Electoral and Boundaries Commission is proposing that Elections be divided into County-based and national elections.

This would however require a referendum to change the 2010 Constitution.

The electoral agency team proposes that the election of governors, senator and MCAs shall fall under the county elections and will be held on a single day.

However, the vote for the President, member of the National Assembly and Woman Representative will be under the national elections with the elections pushed to a different date.

“Staggering of elections for national and county elections will enhance efficiency and reduce pressure on the election system and personnel,” IEBC suggests.

This would require an amendment to the law, which sets the date for Kenyans to make their choice in all the six seats as the second Tuesday of August of every fifth year.

The proposal is captured in the IEBC 2017 post-election evaluation report.

Yesterday, the top brass of the Chebukati-led Commission made a strong case for the changes before the Building Bridges Initiative Taskforce.

The BBI team, a product of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga could recommend for a constitutional change.

Commissioner Abdi Guliye said the county-based election should precede the national election to cure party migration.

“This is the best model we are proposing. It is a practice in some democracies. The reason why we are saying county election should precede the national one is so that people will not move to the party which the President will have been elected on,” he told the taskforce chaired by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji.
