Queen Elizabeth has sent her first ever Instagram post while visiting the Science Museum in London.

The 92-year-old monarch is now an Instagram influencer with her post about Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, her great-great-grandparents.

In 2014, at the same place, she sent the first royal tweet under own name.

The Queen wrote on Instragram: “Today, as I visit the Science Museum I was interested to discover a letter from the Royal Archives, written in 1843 to my great-great-grandfather Prince Albert.

“Charles Babbage, credited as the world’s first computer pioneer, designed the “Difference Engine”, of which Prince Albert had the opportunity to see a prototype in July 1843.

The Queen has published her first @instagram post on The Royal Family’s Instagram channel, to celebrate a visit to the @sciencemuseum

“In the letter, Babbage told Queen Victoria and Prince Albert about his invention the “Analytical Engine” upon which the first computer programmes were created by Ada Lovelace, a daughter of Lord Byron.

“Today, I had the pleasure of learning about children’s computer coding initiatives and it seems fitting to me that I publish this Instagram post, at the Science Museum which has long championed technology, innovation and inspired the next generation of inventors.”

The post was signed Elizabeth R., showing the 92-year-old wrote it herself.

The monarch is at the museum to announce its summer exhibition – Top Secret.

One of the star attractions from the forthcoming event is on display for the head of state, an enigma machine loaned by GCHQ – the intelligence, security and cyber organisation.

The Queen last visited the Science Museum in 2014 when she sent the first royal tweet under her own name to declare the opening of the new Information Age Galleries.
