DCI probe televangelist for hours

Troubled Ekeza Sacco founder David Ngari alias Gakuyo spent the afternoon of Thursday, March 7, at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations over loss of KSh 1.5 belonging to members.

Accompanied by his lawyer Danstan Omari, the televangelist presented himself to the police at around 2pm and was questioned for more than two hours according to reports.

The controversial preacher and politician is accused of transferring members’ savings to a bank account in his name and which is only accessible by him and wife.

Even though he has put some of his properties for sale in order to pay up the huge debt amid cries from over 50,000 members, none has received his or her money back.

On Wednesday, March 6, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i ordered probe into the alleged embezzlement and subsequent prosecution upon police conclude piecing up information.

The Sacco is currently under receivership of State Department of Cooperatives and the accounts have been frozen forcing Gakuyo to sell some of his properties to pay back the members.
