Environment Cabinet Secretary together with his counterparts from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) have been summoned by the parliament committee over firms releasing effluent into rivers.
The summon came following alleged pollution of River Kibos by the Kibos Sugar Company.
According to the committe led by Kareke Mbiuki now wants the CS and NEMA to give solution to the pollution.
NEMA had earlier ordered the closure of the sugar firm something the committee sited would be a risks as workers would lose their jobs.
The matter was brought forth by Kisumu Woman Representative Rosa Buyu who called for immediate solution.
“We must not punish investors and end up compromising people’s income unjustifiably,” Buyu said.
The committee chair Mbiuki has now ordered the environment body to visit the company and furnish the committee with a report of its findings next week.
