Liverpool fans make big transfer demand after Ajax knock Real Madrid out of Champions League

Liverpool fans have made a huge transfer demand after Ajax knocked Real Madrid out of Champions League  on Tuesday night.

And the Reds may well hold the advantage in the race to sign Ajax’s teenage captain, Matthijs de Ligt.

Supporters all had their eyes on the 19-year-old defender as he helped the Amsterdam club cruise to a comfortable 4-1 victory at the Bernabeu.

The Reds have been linked with Real Madrid Stars Isco and Marco Asensio this week – but it was the Ajax man De Ligt fans were calling for on social media.

With a host of European clubs already interested in signing the centre-half, Liverpool may hold an advantage as Virgil Van Dijk revealed last year his compatriot is already on Klopp’s radar.

Van Dijk, who partners De Ligt in defence for the Dutch national side, recently insisted he has not told Klopp to sign the highly-rated player.

Speaking about De Ligt back in November, Van Dijk  told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: “He is already very far, especially at that age.

“A good defender, good boy, calm, knows what he wants and hopefully he makes the right choice in his next step.”

Asked about the prospect of De Ligt joining him in Klopp’s team, Van Dijk added: “He will be on the list because they have enough scouts at the club.

“If they need my opinion at Liverpool, I’ll give it.”

As the summer transfer window approaches Liverpool fans are hopeful the centre-back may be tempted to move to Anfield to partner his Netherlands team-mate.
