A court in Nairobi has summoned the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) acting Manager Bernard Nguyo to explain why he should not be held in contempt of court in the ongoing ‘mercury’ fertiliser case.

In his directive, Magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot said that the court was convinced that the official was aware of the existing court orders and deliberately decided not to comply.

This was after a Moroccan firm charged in the fertiliser scandal applied to have the KEBS acting MD summoned.

They want him to show cause why he should not be sent to jail for disobeying orders requiring him to conduct a fresh test of the said fertiliser for traces of mercury.

According to the firm, Ngunyo has disobeyed the orders that were issued early this year.

Ngunyo is to appear in court in March 12, 2019.
