Passengers have been left stranded at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as the Aviation workers begin their strike over planned handover of management to Kenya Airways.
Despite Kenya Airports Authority declaring the strike suspended, all flights have been grounded at JKIA as Kenya Aviation workers Union begin strike. Flights haven’t left since 3 am Wednesday leaving thousands of passengers stranded.
“We advise all passengers using JKIA to get in touch with their respective airlines to confirm their travel arrangements,” the Kenya Airports Authority said in a statement.
On Wednesday morning, police and General Service Unit (GSU) officers lobbed teargas canisters at the crowd leaving one passenger and six Kenya Airways workers injured in the melee.
The Kenya Aviation Workers Union secretary-general Moses Ndiema has been reported arrested over the ongoing strike.
Six KQ and KAA staff have also been hurt as anti-riot intervened to break up the demos.
