A matatu drive in Homa Bay County was arrested after he hit a tout, crushing him to death.
Eye witnesses said the deceased failed to consider the distance between him and the bus that was traveling at high speed.
The victim, known as Omondi had boarded the Nissan matatu from Homa Bay bus terminus to bargain for his commission matatu’s conductor.
Normally, touts are engaged by matatu drivers to persuade passengers to board their vehicles. They are then paid a commission for the service, which is what Omondi was seeking before the ordeal.
“The deceased was crossing the road but he ended up being killed by the vehicle. We are investigating the matter know who was on the wrong side,” the area OCPD said.
He said the bus driver will be taken to court upon completion of the investigations.
Omondi sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital where he died while receiving medication.
