Killer driver arrested for ending tout in Homa bay

A matatu tout came to his inevitable end when he was crushed by a speeeding bus in Homa Bay town. The circumstances surrounding his actual demise are rather disturbing.

The tout was crushed to death by a speeding bus in Homa Bay Town after he jumped from another Passenger Service Vehicle moving on the opposite direction.Police said they had arrested the Acacia bus driver following the Monday evening incident.The driver identified as Asman Juma who drives a bus belonging to Acacia Bus Company was arrested for allegedly hitting the tout with the bus at Sofia Estate, along Homa Bay- Rongo road.

The tout, identified as Peter Omondi, met his death when he jumped out of a Nissan matatu which he had boarded towards Rongo town.Eye witnesses said the deceased failed to consider the distance between him and the bus that was traveling at high speed.Omondi had boarded the Nissan matatu from Homa Bay bus terminus to bargain for his commission commonly known as ’Pocho” with the matatu conductor.Normally, touts are engaged by matatu drivers to persuade passengers to board their vehicles. They are then paid a commission for the service.Omondi sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital where he died while receiving medication.

Homa Bay OCDP Sammy Koskey confirmed the incident. “The deceased was crossing the road but he ended up being killed by the vehicle. We are investigating the matter know who was on the wrong side,” the OCPD said.

He said the bus driver will be taken to court upon completion of the investigations. The officer told residents to be careful in using roads in the area to avoid accidents. The bus has also been towed to Homa Bay Police Station for inspection. The deceased’s body was taken to the county hospital mortuary.
