A wicked 40-year-old woman from Trans Mara West, Narok County was arrested on Thursday for causing bodily harm to her seven months pregnant daughter-in-law.
It is alleged that the suspect, Annah Kirui, kicked her 24-year-old son’s wife, Viola Langat, on the stomach, instantly inducing an abortion.
The incident happened at the victim’s matrimonial home in Tabaita Village, Chelel Sub-Location in Trans Mara West.
It is alleged that Annah has never approved of her son’s marriage to Viola, and the two have constantly been at loggerheads.
Following the attack, Viola, 22, bled profusely, and the foetus fatally pushed out, Angata Barrikoi Location chief, Paul Kirui, said.
The victim’s husband, Bernard Langat, was working in their shamba, when the incident happened around midday Thursday.
An ambulance was urgently called and Viola, a house-wife, rushed to Trans Mara West Sub-County Hospital, where examinations showed her foetus’s life could not be saved.
The 22-year-old, who was expectant with her first child, however is in a stable condition, doctors at the health facility say.
Annah Kirui is being held at Angata Barrikoi police station as investigations into the incident continue.
