Why CS Amina Might Not Be The Best In Her New Job

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to move Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed to the Sports, Culture and Heritage docket shocked many with the public expressing doubt over whether she was fit for the job.

Its literally a case of out of the classroom and into the field for Ambassador Amina Mohamed, but is she fit for the job at hand her predecessors have seemingly not left much to write home about?.

The office holder Rashid Echesa was sacked in Friday’s cabinet reshuffle after a year in office, while Hassan Wario who was at the sports ministry in the first term is facing charges over the Rio Olympics scandal.

CS Amina has also in the recent months been hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Her attempts to oversee the ongoing curriculum changes in the education ministry and continue to push for necessary reforms seem to be running into headwinds.

A day after announcing the postponement of the rollout of the new curriculum, the education CS took an about turn after getting what sources said was a dress down from the President.

Her bid to lower the entry grade for students to teachers training colleges to a D were thwarted after the court ruled against her.

Most recently she crossed university students the wrong way by suggesting that HELB defaulters be arrested.

As she implemented Kenya’s foreign relations strategy, she unsuccessfully contested the AU commission position chair.

Her move to the education docket seemingly destabilized her, she appeared to struggle to fit into the shoes of her predecessor Dr. Fred Matiang’i.

Many now terming her move to the sports ministry as odd, her next course of action remains unknown.

Amina has however thanked the President for the new appointment and congratulated her nominated replacement Professor George Magoha.
