Bad day for ‘Kiuno Movement’ as Vocal Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa gets Expelled from ODM

The battle of the coastal strip which was seen by many as a vote rich area for Raila Odinga is taking a different shape and the narrative slowly dyeing away.

Rebel, vocal and embattled Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa have been officially expelled from ODM party.

The party’s National Governing Council on Friday said Jumwa had been expelled for gross misconduct.

Her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori’s case is still not clear. Jumwa and Dori have been accused of supporting DP William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has not declared if he will contest in 2022 but his close ally Siaya Senator James Orengo has said he will.

The National Governing Council is composed of the ODM league, National Executive Council, Youth League, the National Election Board and county coordinating committee officials.

Others are governors, deputy governors, assembly minority and majority leaders and the parliamentary group.

The two had earlier hired Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen to fight their expulsion from the ODM. In a letter copied to the ODM National Governing Council said there was complete disregard of the constitution of the party in the manner and style the disciplinary committee arrived at the decision to expel them.

They further dismissed claims that they are supporting Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

In the letter, Murkomen said the two MPs are aware of ODM’s position to support government initiatives under the Building Bridges Initiative that arose following the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga.

He said any such association with the government including DP Ruto was in line with the initiative and an exercise of freedom of association.
