Deputy President William Ruto sustained pressure over his candidacy by powerful forces out to stop him from clinching into power is surely coming true out with a heavy blow.
The war on graft has now been intensified but lately, it seems to be deliberately shifted towards the Deputy President.

Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen in a televised interview on Citizen TV sensationally alleges that Mr Kinoti is being ‘used’ to paint the deputy president as corrupt, and consequently dim his chances of ever becoming president.
He went further to explain that there exists a coalition of cartels that is working to paint DP Ruto and the Kalenjin community as corrupt to advance selfish political agendas.
“I feel that all the campaign that have been going around on social media and the media that Kalenjins are corrupt is being engineered by cartels to scuttle DP Ruto’s 2022 bid,”Murkomen said in part.
His statement came just a day after news of a fresh scandal in which KSh. 21 billion meant for the construction of Arror and Kimwarer Dams In Elgeyo Marakwet County disappeared.
Murkomen argued that Mr Kinoti does not have any information on how the construction of the two dams was being handled, and therefore, his input was misplaced.
“I urge the DCI before he embarks on any investigations of this nature, they should engage experts with the necessary knowledge on how these types of contracts work,” Murkomen said in part.
While explaining how an Italian company was paid over 7 billion as advance payment, Murkomen said that it was clearly agreed in on the contracts before work commenced that 15% of the projects cost would be paid to the contractor.
The payment, Murkomen explained, was enable the contractor to mobilize the equipment and the designs of the two dam projects as outlined in the contracts.
Murkomen, has in the past rubbished the lifestyle audit ordered by the President saying its just another example of targeted pressure aimed solely at stopping Ruto from ascending to power in 2022. The new focus on the war on graft and calls for the lifestyle audit seemed to find support among traditional anti-Ruto forces, who demanded he be subjected to it. They seemed to suggest the wealth he acquired was ill-gotten. But while the DP has welcomed the lifestyle audit, questions abound as to who exactly will carry out the audit and under what legal framework.
