Following a serious sex feud with Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has been expelled from the opposition party Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). She was shown exit after the party’s National Governing Council meeting that unanimously ratified the party’s disciplinary committee finding that she was disloyal.

The National Governing Council is composed of the National Executive Council, ODM league, Youth League, county coordinating committee officials and the National Election Board.

The embattled Jumwa is also accused of openly showing disrespect to the party leader and being too close to the Deputy President William Ruto. Her co-accused Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori has, however, survived the chop after an apology.

ODM said the decision on Dori was deferred ‘following his letter of apology to the Secretary General Edwin Sifuna in which he apologized to the party for his rebellion’. The two MPs’ tribulations began after they waded into the 2022 succession politics. This did not go down well with the ODM leadership, which wondered why its own leaders would go against the party stand on 2022.
