Sarriball’s mainstay Jorginho Frello has broken the record of making the most passes in a Premier League season without registering an assist. The deep-lying Chelsea midfielder completed his 2,300th pass in the 2-0 win over Tottenham on Wednesday, earning him the unwanted title in the process. The Italy international has struggled to win over Blues fans since making his £57million switch from Napoli last summer and has often shouldered the blame for when things go wrong at Stamford Bridge. DailyMail

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri brought the 27-year-old with him from Naples after the pair enjoyed a successful spell in the Serie A but things haven’t quite clicked for the midfielder during his time in England. While the Blues did go unbeaten in the league until November, the club have found themselves in a scrap with Manchester United and Arsenal for a place in the top four while the club has suffered heavy defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Bournemouth in the past month.

With Jorginho brought in to make things tick in Sarri’s system, supporters often point at the Italian as the problem and was even booed by his own fans when he came on as a substitute in the round of 32 Europa League win over Malmo last week. Jorginho has only scored once this campaign in the 3-0 win over Huddersfield on the opening day of the season and has failed to register an assist in all other competitions so far this season. Following the emphatic win over Spurs, Jorginho has now made 2,332 passes without setting up a team-mate, taking the record off of Leon Britton’s hands.

Britton made over 2,200 passes without an assist during the 2011-12 campaign for Swansea while Birmingham City’s Barry Ferguson also recorded 2,168 passes during the 2009-10 season. Chelsea have at least 12 more games to play this season, should they progress into the next stages of the Europa League, and Chelsea fans will be hoping the midfielder can start contributing a little bit more for the forwards ahead of him.
